1. 756 W. 181ST, WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, THE HERRERA APARTMENT
Carla, Paloma, and Victor have all finished watching Daniel’s press conference on television. Carla and Paloma continue watching while Victor paces around the room. They watch as a smug Daniel Evans answers several questions for reporters with a lie after another lie. Carla seems unfazed as this is what she predicted from the beginning while Paloma is in complete shock.
Paloma: How can he get away with this? He’s just lying. Don’t they see that?
Carla: I told you that it would come to this. You’re too naïve to see what the real world is truly like.
Paloma: But that isn’t fair. Nothing he said was true. Surely they can see through that.
Carla: They’ll see whatever he’s willing to let them see. He’s a powerful man and as much as I hate to say it, he’s a smart one too. He’s spent his entire life building a career on lies.
Victor comes from behind the couch and breaks his silence.
Victor: We have to do something.
Carla: Victor, come sit down. You’re pacing. You need to calm yourself.
Victor: How can I calm myself while this man is dragging our family’s name through the mud? Someone has to right this wrong. You can’t treat people like that. To him this family is expendable. All he cares about is himself.
Carla can see Victor getting rather heated over this.
Carla: I don’t think that it’d be wise to add any more fuel to this fire. It’ll only make it worse.
Victor: Worse? How could it possibly get any worse? It’s out there to everyone in the world now. Everywhere we go we’ll be known for this. I’m not willing to let that happen. The truth needs to be told.
Paloma: I think I agree with Victor on this.
Carla: Now you both listen to me. I am just as fired up about this as the two you. But I am not willing to add more humility and shame to this family. We are strong people. I don’t care what anyone else thinks out there about us. As long as we know who we are and what our own truth is then that’s all that matters.
Victor: That may be enough for you but it’s not enough for me. This man is not going to tarnish our father’s good name with this lie.
Victor grabs his coat and starts heading for the front door.
Carla: Where are you going? Victor!
Before Carla can get out his name, Victor is already out the door.
2. BLOCKHEADS
Sarah and Mason are seated at Blockheads. Sarah has called a few of her friends on the walk over to join them. Mason takes in the crowd around him having never been here before. Sarah examines Mason as he looks.
Sarah: You’ve never been here before, have you?
Mason: I haven’t.
Sarah: You’ve heard of it though, right?
Mason: Nope.
Sarah: Who exactly are you? I feel like I’ve let you know quite a bit about me. The only thing I really know about you is your name. For all I know you could be some psycho, which would say a lot about me since I’ve basically dragged you here off the street.
Mason: I can assure you I’m not a psycho.
Sarah: Well that’s reassuring. Something tells me you’re not like the rest of us here.
Mason: What do you mean?
Sarah: You come from money, don’t you?
Mason: What?
Sarah: Nothing to be ashamed of. Just something I can sense. Am I right?
Mason: I suppose. But that’s not something that I let define me. I’m not like the rest of my family. I’ve chosen to live as normal of a life as I possibly can.
Sarah: As normal as you can get while still knowing you still probably have millions waiting for you should you fall.
Mason: It’s not like that.
Sarah: I’m just giving you a hard time. I sensed you were different when I first met you at the coffee shop.
Mason: So tell me about this show that you landed.
Sarah: Well it’s an Off-Broadway musical that’s being done this fall. It’s called “Flight”. It’s been workshopped and produced before but never been officially brought to New York. I’m actually going to be a swing for the show.
Mason: A swing?
Sarah: It’s kind of like an understudy except you understudy all of the ensemble tracks in the show. If someone from the ensemble goes out of the show then I go on.
Mason: That sounds exciting and scary at the same time.
Sarah: It is. It’s a lot of work but it’s very rewarding. It keeps you on your toes at all times. It’ll be fun.
Mason: Well you’ll have to let me know when you go on.
Sarah: Will do. Now let’s say you and I get a drink. Come on.
Sarah gets up and leads Mason over to order a drink.

3. 12:31 BAR AT THE HOTEL CHANDLER
Joe and Kyle are both seated at the bar at the Hotel Chandler. Joe has just finished watching Daniel’s speech on the television while Kyle has continued his drinking.
Joe: Daniel Evans must have absolutely no conscience to tell bold face lies like that.
Kyle: How do you know he’s not telling the truth?
Joe catches himself giving away too much.
Joe: Just my guess. I’m usually a good judge of character.
Kyle: Oh really? What’s your judgment of me?
Joe: Excuse me?
Kyle: I’m testing you. What do you see in me?
Joe isn’t quite sure if Kyle’s being serious or not. Kyle looks at Joe and eggs him on. Joe takes a look at Kyle and starts examining him. He immediately sees the several drinks that Kyle has had.
Joe: Well, I see someone who is quickly try to drown out some type of sorrow or hurt. You clearly are here because you are trying to get away from something. But if I didn’t know any better I’d say that it’s not working. You’re hurt by something but you don’t want to show it or deal with it. Am I close?
Kyle: Not even.
Kyle downs the rest of his drink. Joe can tell that he hit the jackpot but Kyle won’t admit it. Kyle slams the glass down on the bar and starts getting up from his chair. Joe notices Kyle stumbling as he gets up. Joe signals to the bartender to close out his tab.
4. WALDORF HOTEL
Ivy goes through the front hallway and passes through the front room. The voices are a little louder. Ivy immediately makes out Victoria’s voice within a second. She turns the corner and makes her way to the bedroom. The door is cracked slightly. She peeks through the crack to find both James and Victoria in bed together. Ivy opens the bedroom door. The sound of the door banging against the wall interrupts James and Victoria. They both see Ivy standing at the door and cover themselves with the sheets.
Ivy: What do we have here?
James: Ivy?
Victoria: Mrs. Malone? What are you doing here?
Ivy: I was actually going to ask you the same thing. What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be standing next to your husband as he’s giving his press conference?
James: This isn’t what you think Ivy.
Ivy: James, really? I’m not stupid. I have eyes. I’m pretty sure that what I’m thinking is right on the money.
Victoria: How did you find us?
Ivy: That’s none of your business.
Victoria: You can’t tell anyone about this. It will destroy Daniel’s campaign. It’ll destroy all of us.
Ivy: That should have probably been something you thought about before you hopped into bed with James.
James: Ivy, you must-
Victoria: Save it James.
Victoria looks Ivy directly in the eye. She can tell that Ivy isn’t here by accident.
Victoria: What do you want?

5. BLOCKHEADS
Mark: So I hear some congratulations are in order.
Sarah hears the voice from behind here at the table with Mason. She turns her back and sees her three friends Mark, Jenny, and Eli.
Mark, Jenny, Eli: Congrats!
Sarah: Aw, you guys!
Mason watches Sarah get up and hug her friends.
Jenny: Congratulations. You deserve it.
Eli: Finally New York has woken up!
Sarah: Aw, thank you guys. I’m so glad you’re here. Let me introduce you to someone.
Sarah brings her friends over to the table and they each take a seat. Mason feels slightly awkward and uncomfortable but smiles at them.
Sarah: This is Mason. We met at the coffee shop. He actually was with me when I got the call.
Jenny: Hi.
Eli: Hello.
Mason: Hi.
Mark: So, when do you start rehearsals?
Sarah: We start in two weeks. I haven’t even been able to process even the thought of that yet. It’s still all so weird to me.
Jenny: Are you an actor Mason?
Mason: Uh, no. I’m not.
Sarah: Jenny just made her broadway debut in “Rock of Ages”.
Mason: Oh wow, congrats!
Jenny: Thanks. You should come check it out sometime.
Sarah: She’s the first of us to really make it.
Mason: Are you all actors?
Eli: They all are. I’m not. I’m the “normal” one here.
Jenny: You’re everything but normal.
Mark: Bartender! I think we need a round of shots here!
Sarah: Oh, Mark no.
Mark: Girl, don’t Mark me. You just got some of the best news of your life today. We are going to celebrate.
As the conversation continues, Mason finds himself zoning out. He hears bits and pieces of the conversation. He begins scanning the place and checking things out. As he looks at the front he sees Kendall and Amy Beth walk in. He immediately freezes and doesn’t know what to do. Before he can think of anything he locks eyes with Kendall.
6. 12:31 BAR AT THE HOTEL CHANDLER
Joe: You sure you’re alright?
Kyle: I’m fine.
Joe: You have a friend that maybe you can call?
Kyle: Are you inferring that I’m too drunk to handle myself? Besides I have no friends. Infact it would seem that I have no family as well.
Joe: Here let me help you. Where are you headed?
Joe tries to help Kyle regain himself but Kyle pushes Joe off.
Kyle: Hey! What are you trying to do?
Joe: I’m just trying to help that’s all. It’s not safe for you to be running around town like this.
Joe signs his check and takes back his card.
Joe: Come on, let’s get you a cab.
Kyle: Not necessary. I’m not going home. It’s not even my home anymore.
Joe is quite confused but sees that something really must be wrong.
Joe: Alright, well where are you headed?
Kyle: I have a room here at the hotel. Room, um…
Kyle struggles to pull out the room key from his pocket. Joe helps him and takes a look at it.
Joe: Perfect. Let’s get you to your room. Come on.
7. BLOCKHEADS
Kendall: What?
Amy Beth hears Kendall and sees her completely frozen. She looks over and sees Mason across the room.
Amy Beth: Oh no. I’m so sorry Kendall. I didn’t know he’d be here. I never would have suggested this place if I knew. Let’s just go. There are plenty of other places we can go.
Kendall: No.
Amy Beth is caught by surprised with Kendall’s response.
Amy Beth: Seriously, we can just go.
Kendall: No, I’m fine. There’s no reason that Mason and I can’t be civil and be in the same place at the same time. It’s alright. Come on, let’s get a drink.
Kendall and Amy Beth cross over to the bar. Mason watches them and catches one last look at Kendall before she departs. Sarah notices Mason looking over at Kendall.
Sarah: So that’s the girl?
Mason: Huh?
Sarah: I assume that it’s a girl that’s gotten you in this funk and I assume that’s her. I’ve seen that look before.
Mason: I’m sorry.
Sarah: No need to apologize. Look, if this is too much you can totally bail.
Mason: No, it’s not that.
Sarah: I know I totally kidnapped you and dragged you here without a choice.
Mason: No. You didn’t drag me here. I wanted to come. Besides it’s been a nice change so far. I want to be here.
Sarah: Good.
Mason: So, what were we talking about?
Sarah smiles as Mason gets himself back into the conversation with the group.
8. THE HOTEL CHANDLER
Joe and Kyle reach Kyle’s hotel room. Kyle has slowly seemed to sober up just a bit on the way up. Joe inserts the key and opens the door and escorts him into the room.
Joe: Well here you are. Looks like a nice room.
Kyle: It’s alright.
Joe: Well what’s most important is that you’re somewhere safe and you can rest up. You’ll feel a whole lot better tomorrow.
Kyle: Tomorrow? I didn’t about tomorrow. I’m sure I’ll feel worse since I’ll have to deal with reality.
Joe: It can’t be that bad.
Kyle: Imagine living your whole life and then finding out that it’s all a lie. That’s how I feel right now.
Joe: Well I’m sure-
As Joe starts to speak, Kyle walks right up to Joe and kisses him. Joe is caught off-guard for a moment and then backs away.
Joe: Hey!
Kyle: I’m sorry. Did I do something wrong?
Joe: No.
Kyle goes back in to kiss Joe.
Joe: Wait. Look, I’m sorry. I think I may have given the wrong impression here.
Kyle: You are gay, right?
Joe: It’s not that.
Kyle: Oh. You have a boyfriend?
Joe: Yes.
Kyle: I see. I didn’t know. I figured a guy like you alone at a bar at night probably is alone. I definitely wouldn’t let you out by yourself.
Joe: Thanks, I think. I think I better go.
Kyle: Home to your boyfriend?
Joe simply smiles at Kyle briefly and shows himself out.
9. DANIEL EVANS OFFICE HEADQUARTERS
After celebrating the success of the press conference, Daniel along with Lauren and Carter start walking out of the building.
Lauren: Well that went very well.
Daniel: That it did. I’m looking forward to what they all have to say about it in the morning.
Carter: I’m sure it’ll all be great. You delivered an excellent speech.
Daniel: Thank you. From here on we cannot afford anymore distractions or disturbances. This one nearly killed us.
Victor: Daniel Evans?
Daniel: Yes?
Daniel turns around after hearing his name called. Before he can get a look at Victor he feels a powerful blow to his face. The punch knocks him to the ground.
Lauren: Daniel!
Carter: Get security!
Lauren runs back inside the building to alert security. Victor kneels and punches Daniel again in the face.
Victor: You bastard! Telling lies about my sister!
Carter tries to pull back Victor but gets pushed hard to the cement ground.
Victor: You’re a liar!
Victor goes in to hit Daniel again but is pulled off by two security guards. They lift Victor off the ground. Carter and Lauren rush over to pick up Daniel. Daniel is bleeding pretty badly from his face. The guards take Victor away.
Daniel: It’s ok. I’m alright.
Lauren: You’re bleeding.
Daniel: I’m alright.
Lauren: Who was that?
Daniel: If it’s my guess, Paloma Herrera’s brother.
Mark: So I hear some congratulations are in order.
Sarah hears the voice from behind here at the table with Mason. She turns her back and sees her three friends Mark, Jenny, and Eli.

10. WALDORF HOTEL
Victoria: Well, what do you want? Surely you’re here for a reason.
Ivy: And you would be right Victoria. I’m tired of watching your husband scheme his way through this election.
Victoria: The way I see it your husband has made it very easy for Daniel to do that.
Ivy: My husband simply won’t lower his standards, that’s all. Unlike Daniel, Walter has a conscious. I want you to help me win this election for my husband.
James: What?
Victoria: Are you insane? Why would I do that?
Ivy: Because if you don’t then I’ll be forced to expose your secret affair here.
James: Blackmail?
Ivy: Keep up James.
Victoria: How on earth do you expect me to help Walter win?
Ivy: I suppose that’s something you’ll have to figure out on your own.
James: Now wait a minute here Ivy. That’s insane and impossible. You know that.
Ivy: I don’t think so. I can’t think of a better member of the team for Walter. With you having complete access to Daniel it’s a perfect match. You provide us with everything we want to know and I’ll keep this a secret. Cross me and your secret is out.
Victoria: You’re serious?
Victoria looks at Ivy who doesn’t answer back but her face tells it all. Victoria crosses over to Ivy.
Victoria: Fine. You have a deal. I’ll be your eyes and ears. Walter Malone for senate.
James watches in complete awe as Victoria extends her hand out to Ivy. Ivy crosses in closer to Victoria with a smile on her face and shakes her hand sealing the deal.
Victoria: Well, what do you want? Surely you’re here for a reason.
Ivy: And you would be right Victoria. I’m tired of watching your husband scheme his way through this election.
